"Hyères, France" (1932)

I chose this picture by Henri Cartier-Bresson because of the composition- the way the railing on the staircase leads the viewer's eye around the picture. It starts with the diagonal to the right corner but then changes. The photo is also interesting because of the man on the bicycle captured by the slow shutter speed.

  1. I love the quirky twisting staircase in this photo; I've always loved photographing stairs. The passing bicyclist makes the photo perfect by showing some life, I think it really wakes the photo up.

  2. I went to Henri Cartier-Bresson's exhibition this summer. He is such a great documentary photographer and I really like his works. I like this piece because there are so much artistic elements added to the photo even though it's a photo taken spontaneously and in a very short moment. The stair case creates very pretty lines and composition, and the shutter speed also added the movement in the photograph and made photograph more "live."
